Simple Autumn Outfit

Ah remember the time before coats? I admit it, these pictures aren't from today but this is the life we live in when it's dark before I leave work, we're all just going to have to deal with it. The cold has well and truly set in the past couple of days and there is no chance of me galivanting about in a mere two layers anymore. In fact today I donated £40 to charity in exchange for a faux fur coat (it's a real Carrie Bradshaw number, couldn't believe my luck!)

I seem to be veering towards simple combinations in outfits these days. Leggings, a plain white tee and a denim shirt was all I needed for the basis of this outfit. I think accessories really make a look and simple dressing puts more emphasis on them. I forget how much I love this bag and I think it's really unexpected that it's from Primark. The turquoise watch also adds a little something but don't judge me for the fact its battery is dead.

Do you like to let accessories do the talking?

Rydell High

I know, I know I'm so Grease is the word. To be honest this wasn't intentional, I can't wear this skirt with jackets or cardigans longer than waist length, so it's a case of using whatever I've got. Unfortunately, this meant looking like an extra from Rydell High. On reflection, I'm not overly happy with the look but I'd already taken the pictures and I hate waste!

Do you ever find yourself disliking outfits after you've snapped them?

Check or Tartan

Tartan and check is having a right old moment in fashion right now. I'm not quite sure if this shirt falls into the tartan or check category but I already had it in my wardrobe, so I'm loving life basically.

The dress I'm wearing is that well known drape back number from InLoveWithFashion but not being one to confine certain styles to specific situations, I'm rocking it for a daytime look. It's all about the layers at this time of year so chucking on a shirt over the top makes it work for day and then I can whip it all off for party time!

Or something.

The denim jacket is vintage Levis that I found in Barcelona (damn, what a hipster I sound) and it's so massive that it's perfect for winter because I can actually fit jumpers on underneath it. Don't you hate jackets that won't allow for a jumper? The tights are clever built in sock type jobbies that I got from Pretty Polly. I do really love them but I bladdy laddered them the last time I wore them which is so much more painful when the tights cost more than a pound.

Styling Nike Free Run Trainers

I should probably say, before any serious runners see this and think I have been buying proper trainers for the sake of fashion, I did not buy these shoes expecting them to appear on my blog. I bought them for the gym (and a little bit because my feet hurt while walking around New York) and it just so happens they're so comfy and kind of awesome, I felt the need to shoehorn (pun intended) them into my day-to-day wardrobe. I love the sort of shark blue-grey colour contrasted with the yellow, they're SO comfortable and if there was a zombie apocalypse, I'm safe in the knowledge that my shoes won't let me down.

I may have said it before but I have a bit of a thing for wacky, unexpected colour combination trainers. If I ever won Euromillions I would probably end up with a room full of them but I try to keep my addiction under control as best I can.

I think if you do want to style proper trainer-y trainers into your usual wardrobe, they have to be paired with the very opposite style of clothes. My whole outfit is pretty casual until I added the blazer which tips the balance back from lazy outfit into 'fashion'.

Or at least I think so.

The white nails, chain necklace and purple lipstick stop this look from being a bit weird and boring and give it a bit more 'edge'.

Layering a Dress

I got stupidly excited at the fact this very summery halter neck dress layered so well over my white sheer shirt and I'm not afraid to say that I will be wearing it again. I needed a jumper for warmth so I added this bottle green number, inadvertently making myself look like I was wearing my old school uniform.

My new (old) favourite necklace came out to play again along with my fave studded boots I bought last year. I'm on the hunt for another great pair of leather boots but when I'm wearing these babies it's like I'd never need another pair.

I really do love Autumn fashion. No massive coat hiding your outfit and it's still just about warm enough not to need tights. Bravo!
